DVD Dribble
21-Dec-2006
Written by: Michelle Vaccaro

It’s all about indie films in this edition of the DVD Dribble.

This edition of the DVD Dribble is comprised of independent films. Most of the following films are also multi-cultural.

The DVD Dribble starts off with the interesting life of a famous painter. The last 67 days of Vincent Van Gogh’s life, leading up to his suicide, is interpreted in the Van Gogh DVD. The DVD is in French, but does have English subtitles.

Lost’s Josh Holloway stars in this next film. Mi Amigo is a Western about two friends who become enemies after one decides to steal. The DVD includes a trailer gallery as well as English and Spanish subtitles.

The Promise is a Cantonese film about a slave who makes a deal with an enchantress that if she remains beautiful, she will not be able to be with the man she loves. The DVD features “The Making of The Promise,” additional scenes, and the theatrical trailer. The audio tracks are in Mandarin and English, but there are also English, Spanish, and French subtitles.

Up next is the romantic comedy, Lies and Alibis. The film is about a man that owns a service that provides alibis for adulterous husbands. Jerry O’Connell, Steve Coogan and Rebecca Romijn star in the film. The DVD contains English audio tracks and English and French subtitles.

Dreamland is a drama about a woman who has to choose between taking care of her father and following her dreams. Some famous names in this film are Justin Long, John Corbett, and Gina Gershon. The DVD includes English subtitles and audio tracks.

The last film on the list is the Spanish version of a Sweet 16, Quinceañera. The film is about a girl who is about to turn fifteen and discovers she is pregnant. She gets kicked out of her house and starts a new life, living with her great-granduncle and her gay cousin. The DVD includes deleted scenes, commentary by the filmmakers and cast, “On the Red Carpet with Quinceañera,” and “The Making of Quinceañera.”

This edition of the DVD Dribble expanded over a few different cultures. Even though some of the films covered had non-English audio tracks, there were English subtitles available.
