Some well-known movies are coming to the small screen on DVD.
A lot of famous actors are seen in the films in this edition of the DVD Dribble. You probably have heard of most of the films as well.
For a different type of movie viewing, check out A Scanner Darkly. The film, which was made with drawings over the film, has that squiggly animation look. Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, and Winona Ryder star in the film about drug addiction. The DVD includes the trailer, commentaries by writer/director Richard Linklater, producer Tommy Pallotta, author Jonathan Lethem, Isa Hackett Dick, and Keanu Reeves, and “One Summer in Austin: The Story of Filming A Scanner Darkly" and “The Weight of the Line: Animation Tales” featurettes. It also has English audio tracks and English, Spanish, and French subtitles.
Ron Howard’s daughter, Brice Dallas Howard, stars alongside Paul Giamatti in the latest M. Night Shyamalan mystery, Lady in the Water. The film is pretty much self-explanatory by knowing the title. A man finds a mysterious woman swimming in a pool. The DVD special features are “Lady in the Water: A Bedtime Story” featurette, a documentary entitled “Reflections of a Lady in the Water,” auditions, deleted scenes, gag reel, and trailer. It also includes English, French, and Spanish audio tracks and subtitles.
Bugsy has made its way back to DVD with a bunch of extra features in the Bugsy (Unrated Extended Cut). Warren Beatty and Annette Bening met while filming this gangster film about how Ben "Bugsy" Siegel took over Las Vegas. The DVD includes digitally re-mastered picture and sound, deleted scenes, filmographies, video montage: Bugsy Siegel’s “Screen Test,” 15 minutes of added footage, and the documentary “The Road to Damascus: The Reinvention of Bugsy Siegel.” It also has English, French, and Portuguese audio tracks and subtitles.
Another film packed with Hollywood heavyweights is All the Kings Men, which stars Jude Law, Sean Penn, Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet, and Mark Ruffalo. The film follows the life of southern politician Willie Stark. All the Kings Men (Special Edition) DVD contains “The Making of All the Kings Men,” “Shake Hands with the Devil,” and “An American Classic” featurettes, “La. Confidential: On Location with All the Kings Men,” a documentary called “The Legend and Lore of Huey Long,” deleted scenes, and an alternate ending.
The Rock is cooking up a football team in the last film on this list, Gridiron Gang. Duane “The Rock” Johnson stars in the film that puts a football team together with teenagers at a juvenile detention center. The special features include writer and director commentaries, deleted scenes, “Gridiron Gang: Football Training,” multi-angle football scene, Phil Joanou profile, and “The Rock Takes the Field.” The DVD comes in full screen, widescreen, Blu-ray, and UMD Mini editions.
All of the films in this edition of the DVD Dribble have a ton of special features. So whether or not you've already seen the movies in the theaters, you can still see something different by watching the DVDs.
