Isaiah Washington Getting Help

With controversy brewing over anti-gay remark, ABC puts on the pressure.

Grey's Anatomy actor Isaiah Washington says he is now seeking professional counseling, after the controversy surrounding his insensitive remarks toward costar T.R. Knight have come to a head. Washington will be gone for about a week, but ABC reports his absence will not affect taping of the highly successful show.

Executives at ABC put pressure on Washington to get a "psychological assessment" after he was under heavy fire from an incident at the Golden Globe Awards. On a reception stage, Washington inexplicably blurted out a denial that the original incident ever happened, yet in his denial used an anti-gay slur.

Washington issued a formal apology three days later, but it was too little too late for Grey's producers.
