Harry Potter Star Grows Up

Daniel Radcliffe to star in play with nude scene

Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter series, drops his conservative Hogwarts robes for a more racy and mature part in Peter Shaffer's controversial play Equus, opening on Feb. 27 at the Gielgud Theatre in London.

The 17-year-old simulates a nude and drawn out sex scene atop a horse as troubled stable hand Alan Strang with former "Holby City" actress Joanna Christie. Radcliffe also stars with fellow Harry Potter veteran Richard Griffiths, Harry's hot-headed uncle, as Strang's psychiatrist. Advanced bookings for Equus has already grossed over 1 million pounds.

But fans don't need to worry: Radcliffe still plans to play the awkward (and decidedly more covered up) Harry Potter. "Daniel does not want to step away from Harry Potter but he does want to show he is an rounded actor capable of very different and diverse roles. He has tremendous support from Harry Potter fans," said Radcliffe's spokesman Vanessa Davies.
