Country Time at the Grammys

Controversy did not stop the Dixie Chicks from taking over the Grammys.

It seemed like the 49th Annual Grammy Awards were all about the Dixie Chicks last night. The Dixie Chicks won in all five categories in which they were nominated. They took home the Grammy for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Country Performance by a Duo or Trio, and Best Country Album.

Mary J. Blige and Ludacris had a big night as well. Blige, who had lead the pack with eight nominations, won three categories, Best R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song. Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album went to Ludacris who jokingly remarked that it took cutting his hair for him to win a Grammy. Blige and Ludacris also performed their new single "Runaway Love."

Just like Kelly Clarkson, another "American Idol" received recognition from the Recording Academy. Carrie Underwood won Best New Artist and Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

Confetti flew as The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed their single "Snow." Their song "Dani California" was named Best Rock Song. The band also accepted awards for Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

The Police reunited and opened the show with "Roxanne." Other notable performances included Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts, Chris Brown, Smokey Robinson and Lionel Richie, and John Mayer, John Legend, and Corinne Bailey Rae. Justin Timberlake performed twice. Once with his latest single "What Goes Around...Comes Around" and the second time singing "My Love" with the "My Grammy Moment" winner Robyn Troup.
