American Idol Goes to Camp
Since contestants have to be 16 years old to try out for American Idol, masterminds behind the show are launching a summer getaway camp for show hopefuls between the ages of 12 and 15.
Fremantle Media and Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment will allow tweens to audition for 700 spots at the camp in a non-competitive atmosphere that will act as a "training ground for America's future stars."
It will cost $2,900 for a 10-day session in Massachusetts. But some campers will be eligible for a scholarship to allow for a more diverse mix of backgrounds.
"As in American Idol, the goal for our kids is to soar beyond their expectations," said Fremantle executive VP, Keith Hindle.
Campers will attend seminars with celebrity guests, former Idol contestants and other industry professionals, to hone their skills in singing, dancing, song writing and audition techniques.
If this year's camp is a success, camps in other locations are a definite possibility.
