Chicks Passed Over for ACMs

42nd Annual ACM Awards to be given out May 15th
The Academy of Country Music wasn’t impressed with the Dixie Chicks’ sweep of this year’s Grammys. Though the Texas trio has been a big winner in the past at the ACMs—they have ten career ACMs under their belts—the trio did not receive a single nomination this year. Though the Chicks have met with great success on their new album, Taking the Long Way, they have fallen out of favor with Nashville. The Dixie Chicks were widely shunned for their Bush-bashing comments back in 2003, when lead singer Natalie Maines professed that she was ashamed to be from the same state as Bush. The Chicks were widely boycotted by much of country music, and their new album has not gained them re-entrance into the fold.
Other big-hitters were accounted for, however, with George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, and Rascal Flatts leading the pack. Strait, with 15 ACMs already in his trophy case, is up for six awards this year, leading the pack in nominations. These three acts, along with Kenny Chesney, Vince Gill, and Tim McGraw are all contending for the top award, Entertainer of the Year. Former American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, is up for five ACMs of her own, including Top Female Vocalist and Album of the Year (for Some Hearts).
The 42nd Annual ACM Awards will be on May 15th on CBS.
