“The Frog Princess“ Returns to Animation Roots
9-Mar-2007
Written by: Jess Boettger
Disney will add first black princess to repertoire.
Disney returns to the old-school, hand-drawn animation in their latest “fairy tale” film. The film, entitled The Frog Princess, will not be computer-animated, which has become the standard, but will instead return to animation’s hand-drawn roots. It will also feature Disney’s first black princess, a girl named Maddy. The story is set in New Orleans, and is being referred to by its makers as an “American fairy tale.”
John Musker and Ron Clements, who directed past Disney hits Hercules, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid, will return for The Frog Princess, for which they also penned the story. Also returning to the Disney payroll is Randy Newman. Newman has been hired to create the movie’s score. His past credits include Toy Story (1&2), A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc., and Cars.
Disney’s latest princess, Maddy, will also be added to the line-up of the company’s animated princesses, which are used at theme parks and on consumer products.
