Comedian commits suicide in his home.
Richard Jeni, once ranked in the top 100 stand-up comedians of all-time, committed suicide on Saturday morning. Police reports state that the 45-year old comedian stepped into the shower of his West Hollywood home on Saturday morning and shot himself in the face while his girlfriend was making him breakfast. When they arrived on the scene, Jeni was still alive, but gravely injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:36 a.m. An autopsy has been ordered, but authorities do not expect to find evidence of foul play.
Richard Jeni appeared regularly on “The Tonight Show” while Johnny Carson was hosting, and during Jay Leno’s time as well. Jeni’s official website makes the claim that he appeared on the show more often than any other comedian. Jeni had an appearance in Jim Carrey’s “The Mask,” starred in several commercials for Certs and Arby’s. The late comedian was born in Brooklyn, New York, to an Italian-American family. He graduated with a degree in Comparative Politics (with honors) from Hunter College.
