Starbucks teamed up with Concord Music Group for LA-based label
Coffee giant Starbucks is expanding on its display of Hear Music CD’s at its front counters across the country. They have teamed up with Concord Music Group to launch a record label, according to the Associated Press.
Concord has worked with Starbucks in the past when it lent its name to the Grammy-winning “Genius Loves Company,” an album of Ray Charles duets.
The two companies said the label “advocates creative control for artists and encourages musicians to stretch and take risks.”
Another appealing factor for new and established artists is the built in audience of the millions who flock to the Starbucks.
“This is a pretty powerful new platform, when you can reach 44 million customers per week through Starbucks’ stores,” said Glen Baros, president of Concord Music Group.
Starbucks has already opened four hybrid Hear Music hybrid coffeehouses where customer can buy certain selections and burn them to a CD. They also have a successful page on the iTunes website.
