Cyndi Lauper to Headline Gay Rights Tour

The “True Colors“ tour will promote gay awareness
Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Harry, Margaret Cho and Erasure are set to headline the “True Colors” tour this summer to promote gay rights. The name is based on Lauper’s 1986 hit by the same name, which helped many gay youth in America who suffered hardships.
The tour, set to kick of in Las Vegas on June 30, will be sponsored by MTV’s Logo, a channel targeted at gay audiences, and will give audiences information and purple wristbands that say “erase hate” for the Matthew Shepherd organization (named for a gay youth brutally murdered). A dollar for every ticket sold will go to the Human Rights Campaign, which advocates rights for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people.
Lauper has been a long-time supporter of gay rights.
“You shouldn’t have to be treated badly because of your sexual orientation. Come on, we don’t live in a dictatorship. This is supposed to be America, the home of the free and the brave,” she said to the Associated Press. “It can’t be free for some and not for others.”
