Hip-Hop Act Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five became a timeless act following its induction Monday into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It became the first hip-hop act to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, said the Associated Press.Rapper and Def Jam Records President Jay-Z read the induction speech from his Blackberry, saying rap has come a long way since Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five first introduced their raw sound and stories of the New York streets with songs like "The Message." Meanwhile, Grandmaster Flash talked backstage about how this new universal acceptance was a tough battle."There were some that called it a fad. They called it a flash of brilliance, excuse my pun. I think the significance of going into this organization is it's the final place for corporate respect," he said. "They all finally accepted and embraced this wonderful culture we call hip-hop."
