Blanchett is slated to star in the newest installment of the Indiana Jones film franchise, currently untitled.
Australian actress Cate Blanchett, 37, is only the second cast member to be confirmed in the fourth Indiana Jones film, starring 64-year-old Harrison Ford in the role that made him famous.
The film is being directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Company. Also rumored to star in the film are Shia LeBouf (possibly as Jones’ son), Sean Connery, and Karen Allen.
The last Indiana Jones film hit theatres in ‘89 and was preceded by two others in ’81 and ’84. The last film in ’89, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, grossed $494,800,000 worldwide, and did the best out of all three films. The rumored casting of Shia LeBouf would suggest that the filmmakers are trying to attract younger audiences that may not have seen the first three films.
Shooting is set to begin in June and the film is scheduled for release May 22, 2008.
