Various items were donated for “Icons of Music“ auction to take place in April at New York’s Hard Rock Cafe.
Music Rising’s the “Icons of Music” auction will take place on April 21 at the Hard Rock Café in New York for the musicians who lost instruments and other equipment after Hurricane Katrina.
One of the bigger pieces is a 1975 Cream Gibson Les Paul guitar donated by U2's The Edge.
“I wanted that Steve Jones ‘Nevermind the Bollox’ sound, so I got the same guitar right down to the color. I never could get that sound, but I found a bunch of songs in this instrument, and have used it extensively ever since, on tour and in the studio,” he said.
Other items up for auction include sunglasses worn by John Lennon, handwritten lyrics by Bruce Springsteen, a saxophone signed by President Bill Clinton, Nirvana’s MTV Video Music Award and Elvis Presley’s early recording contract.
Some of the items will be previewed on Tuesday through Thursday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and in April in Dublin, London and New York.
