2-Apr-2007
Written by: Courtney Thompson
She was a host and performer at the Juno Awards and won all five of her nominations.
The Juno Awards, the annual Canadian Music Awards, turned into The Nelly Furtado awards, as the singer won statuettes for all five of her nominations, as well as hosted the show and performed a medley of all of her hits.
She kicked off the show by flying down the rafters in a bird costume, poking fun at herself and her break-out single, “I’m Like a Bird.”
Her honors for the night included Album and Single of the Year as well as the Fan Choice award. Furtado said she was both honored and humbled for the awards. She later broke down in tears after the show, when she reflected on her work up to this point.
"I moved to Toronto when I was 17, I had a dream -- I'm getting emotional -- of being an artist," she said. "I just love doing what I do. It means a lot to me."
Her album, Loose, has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
