“Knight Rider“ Car for Sale
2-Apr-2007
Written by: Jess Boettger

1980s TV car KITT up for grabs.

Fans of the 1980s TV show, Knight Rider, who have a little extra pocket change to throw around, might be interested to know that KITT is for sale. The 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, which jumped rivers, shot flames, and talked to David Hasselhoff, is priced at just under $150,000. It is currently awaiting its next owner at a Dublin auto dealership. Kassabian Motors’ Johnny Verhoek has had the car on display for close to a month. KITT’s full name is Knight Industries Two Thousand.

This particular Trans Am is one of four “camera cars” in which Knight Rider star Hasselhoff was filmed behind the wheel for the series. And even though it isn’t capable of 300 mph speeds, can’t make impossibly huge jumps, and doesn’t come equipped with smoke bombs as its TV persona does, several key features of the TV car are still intact. Most notably, the red scanner light on KITT’s nose lights up and hums. The cockpit is an array of buttons and lights, but unfortunately, it is reported that most of the gadgets don’t do anything. Also, the car can’t actually have a conversation with its rider.

The current owner is a man by the name of Tim Russo, of Livermore. He purchased the car a decade ago and has spent that time restoring it.
