Gators Repeat
2-Apr-2007

Florida Gators win national championship.
The Florida Gators made history Monday night, becoming the first team in the history of college basketball to win back-to-back championships with the same starting five.
Using a balanced offensive attack, the Gators were able to stave off each successive Ohio State comeback attempt in the second half. On several occasions, the Buckeyes were able to cut the Gators lead to single digits, only to have Taurean Green or Lee Humphrey come right back and hit a back-breaking three pointer.
Center Al Horford was also instrumental in hindering every Buckeye run by making several key buckets down the stretch, including two runners in the lane with the shot clock running down.
Despite the loss, Buckeyes center Greg Oden stood out as a force, both offensively and defensively. For the entire game, Gators coach Billy Donovan applied a war of attrition against Oden, using a four man rotation in an attempt to both tire and foul out the big man.
Having struggled in prior games with foul trouble, Oden was able to stay on the court against the Gators, playing all but two minutes. He ended the game with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks, and showed why many consider him the best prospect in college basketball.
