Girls Gone Wild - The Jailhouse Edition
10-Apr-2007
Written by: Jeannine Coppola
Creator of popular adult videos gets arrested.
According to ABC, the man behind the topless empire of the "Girls Gone Wild" video and DVD series, was arrested Tuesday at a local airport in Panama City. Media mogul, Joe Francis, was ordered by a federal judge to begin serving jail time for contempt of court in relation to his 4-year-old legal battle with seven underage girls who sued him for filming them on "Girls Gone Wild" in sexual situations. However, Francis never showed up, and is now being held on bail at the Bay County Jail.
U.S. District Judge Richard Smoak required Francis to participate in mediation talks to facilitate the lawsuit, which were set to begin last month, but Francis protested and verbally attacked lawyers. He then tried to make a settlement offer for the plaintiffs. His absence at an emergency hearing last Wednesday has prompted Judge Smoak to raise the amount of money the "Girls Gone Wild" boss has to pay the plaintiffs' lawyers.
