Birkhead Does Not Plan to Share Custody of Baby

The photographer said he sees no need for a custody battle following DNA results.

Larry Birkhead, a former boyfriend of Anna Nicole Smith, said he does not intend to share custody of Dannielynn on Wednesday, the day after it was announced that he was her biological father. "It would imply that I'm unfit as a parent, which I'm not," Birkhead said. "I'm looking forward to giving Dannielynn everything that she needs and all the love and support." Howard K. Stern said he has no intention of trying to get custody of Dannielynn, but Virgie Arthur, Smith's mother, may try to obtain custody. She has a slim chance of winning, as she had been estranged from her daughter at the time of her death. Stern told attorney Wayne Monroe to resist any custody claim made by Arthur. A hearing is scheduled for Friday to determine who will care for the seven-month-old baby. According to Entertainment Tonight, Birkhead visited Dannielynn on Tuesday after DNA results were announced, feeding her applesauce. Stern's lawyers said he and Birkhead have discussed a possible transition period where each will spend time with the baby.
