Young actor is cast in Indiana Jones 4, confirming rumors.
So it’s official: Shia LaBeouf will be in the next Indiana Jones flick. On Friday, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas posted the announcement on the film’s official website. The statement said that they were “excited about bringing Shia into our Indy family.”
The film, slated for a May 2008 release date, is the third time that LaBeouf will have collaborated with Spielberg in his short career. The previous two are Disturbia, in theatres now, and Transformers, in which LaBeouf plays the human lead.
LaBeouf, for his part, is elated about the confirmation of the rumors that have been circling for months. “To be cast in an Indiana Jones film,” he said, “is like grabbing the brass ring and holding on for the ride. I’ll do my best to meet the high standards that Steven, George, and Harrison have set.”
It isn’t known yet who LaBeouf will play, exactly, but the rumors suggest he landed the role of Indiana Jones’s son. He will be in elite company: the other actors known to be onboard so far include Harrison Ford, of course, and also Cate Blanchett and Ray Winstone.
