Carrie Underwood cleans up at CMTs.
Country music’s sweetheart, Carrie Underwood, had a very good night at the 2007 CMT Awards. The annual Country Music Television Awards saw the former American Idol winner raking in the awards. Underwood’s video for “Before He Cheats” took top honors in three categories, including “Video of the Year” and “Female Video of the Year.” The video’s director, Roman White, was also honored with the “Video Director of the Year” award for Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.”
This year’s Johnny Cash Visionary Award was presented to actor Kris Kristofferson. Backstage, Kristofferson was quoted telling reporters, “He (Cash) stood up for me when a lot of people didn’t.” The 70-year-old actor/singer joins a growing list of winners for the Visionary Award, which includes: Reba McEntire, the Dixie Chicks, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams Jr., and the late Johnny Cash himself.
The CMT Awards are decided by fan voting.
Other big winners at the CMTs include:
Taylor Swift—Breakthrough Video (“Tim McGraw”)
Sugarland—Duo Video of the Year (“Want To”)
Jack Ingram—Wide Open Country Video (“Love You”)
