“Pimp My Ride“ is Earth-Friendly for a Day

1965 Chevrolet Impala gets a makeover.
In honor of Earth Day, April 22, MTV’s Pimp My Ride has something special in store. The show’s creative team has taken a 1965 Impala and transformed it into a canola-oil-consuming beast. The Impala was specifically transformed into an 800 horsepower, biodiesel car for Earth Day. Rick Hurvitz, executive producer and co-creator for Pimp My Ride, promises that fans will get a surprise from the Earth Day theme when the special episode premieres on Sunday.
The 1965 Chevy Impala begins its stint on the show as a rusty, battered blue car with busted windows and tattered upholstery. By the end, it will be a red and white beauty with all the trimmings and then some. The Earth Day theme carries itself beyond the engine and into the interior of the car with renewable hemp fiber upholstery and carpeting made out of actual recycled bottles.
Hurvitz says that the general idea of the show is to go for “ridiculous excess.”
