Many artists donated music memorabilia to be auctioned.
Artists such as Hendrix, The Edge, Bono, and McCartney donated music memorabilia to be auctioned off. Some of the $2.4 million proceeds will go to a charity that is working to replace music equipment that was lost in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, reports the Associated Press.
The auction was run by Julien’s Auctions, and was for the benefit of Music Rising. Darren Julien, President and CEO of Julien’s Auctions said, "It was the best sale we've ever done."
Music Rising was co-founded by U2 guitarist The Edge, who donated a guitar that raised $288,000. A guitar formerly owned by Jimi Hendrix raised $480,000. Other high profit items included a pair of sunglasses donated by Bono that went for $24,000, a Bob Dylan guitar that went for $192,000 and a guitar from Paul McCartney that was auctioned off for $81,600.
