Ferrera to Star in “Traveling Pants“ Sequel
23-Apr-2007
Written by: McKenna Lowry
America Ferrera, star of ABC’s “Ugly Betty,“ will be reprising her role, along with Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel and Blake Lively in the sequel to “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.“
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 is in pre-production, due mainly to Ferrera's star upgrade. However, her return is not by choice, but instead because Alcon Entertainment has exercised its sequel option on Ferrera and her other castmates.
Ferrera had been looking to star in An Invisible Sign of My Own, a film being produced by Salma Hayek's new production company, Ventanazul. Hayek is also the executive producer of ABC's Ugly Betty.
The situation is not unusual. Halle Berry reluctantly returned to fulfill her obligation for X2: X-Men United after picking up her first Oscar for Monster's Ball. And Will Ferrell was able to get out of a plan for an Old School sequel focusing on his character Frank the Tank.
One piece of good news for Ferrera; she will most likely receive first billing compared to her third billing on the first film.
