Rage Against the Machine Rocks Coachella
30-Apr-2007
Written by: Jess Boettger
Rockers reunite after nearly seven years.
Rock band Rage Against the Machine made an explosive re-entrance onto the music scene with their reunion concert Sunday night. The reunion show was the finale of Coachella, and also the first time that the band has played together in seven years, when lead singer Zack de la Rocha parted ways with the group. The foursome played their set of classic hits against a simple red backdrop, and ended the main set with an anticipated anti-Bush tirade, “Wake Up.” He also compared the Bush administration to Nazi war criminals.
Revisited hits include “Bullet in the Head,” “Know Your Enemy,” “Bulls on Parade,” and “Sleep Now in the Fire.” And of course, they performed their signature song, “Killing in the Name,” giving the festival’s biggest crowd of the weekend a chance to chant the infamous refrain. The last time Rage Against the Machine played the Coachella festival was in its first year, 1999.
