Dukes of Hazzard Car Sells for Nearly $10 Million

The General Lee was auctioned off on eBay for almost $10 million.

The General Lee, a 1969 Dodge Charger that made its appearance in the 1980s television show, The Dukes of Hazzard, has sold for $9,900,500 on eBay, Friday.

John Schneider, who played Bo Duke in the cult classic, said he only expected the car to go for $3 million when he originally put it up for auction.

"In my wildest dreams, two people would get into a bidding war at about $2.5 million...and I would have been delighted with that. However, I'm three times as delighted as that now," said Schneider to the Associated Press. All of the living cast members autographed underneath the hood for the lucky winner.

If the transaction goes through, the General Lee will be the most expensive item ever sold on eBay, said eBay spokesperson Catherine England. The current record is held by a private jet that sold for $4.9 million.

Schneider said he plans to use the money to produce a sequel to his 2006 movie, Collier & Co.
