Various events were announced to honor next year’s Grammys.
Year-long plans for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards were unveiled by Recording Academy President Neil Portnow, producer Quincy Jones and singer Joss Stone at The Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the ceremony will take place.
The telecast will take place on Feb 10 with award nominations press conference on December 6, 2007.
A 30,000 square foot Grammy museum will open across from the Staples Center in the new L.A. Live Venue in September 2008, a retrospective coffee table book will be sold by Borders in October 2008, and Grammy Brand will produce a clothing line under the tagline “music makes me...” to commemorate the momentous occasion.
Jones will be presented with the Grammy Foundation Leadership award at the Starry Night benefit concert on July 28. Aretha Franklin will be honored Feb. 28 as the MusiCares person of the year.
A new logo for the 50th anniversary and official artwork for the 2008 awards program book and poster were also shown. The artwork will consist of a mosaic by Roy Feinson of hundreds of images from past Grammys' broadcasts.
