Dukes of Hazzard Car a Hoax on Ebay
The sale of The Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee, that broke eBay records with a winning bid of $9.9 million, was revealed to be a hoax, as John Schneider, who played Bo Duke on the series, has not received payment from the buyer.
Allen Stockman, who controls the Schneider's estate, told BBC News that the car will be put up for auction on a different bidding site that screens its buyers, and the actor may attempt to sue William Fisher, who put in the winning bid.
"He deserves to be hit in the pocketbook," said Stockman.
Bids at eBay are legally binding contracts that users agree to pay, however, if a buyer fails to pay, there is no fine.
"There are all sorts of reasons a transaction may fall through, and we have a claims process for both buyer and seller," said eBay spokesperson Catherine England to the Associated Press.
The 1969 Dodge Charger was not used in the original series but did appear in a film, and all cast members signed the hood.
