Country Stars Ride for Charity

Montgomery Gentry, others kick off charity motorcycle run before award show.
Country music duo Montgomery Gentry led the way for hundreds of bikers, many of them fellow country music singers, into the hills over Las Vegas, Nevada to kick off the annual motorcycle ride for charity on Sunday. The charity bike run has become part of the Academy of Country Music Awards celebration. Immediately following the run was a concert in Vegas, at the downtown Fremont Street Experience.
The bike run has grown tremendously since Troy Gentry and Eddie Montgomery were first asked to kick it off. That was four years ago, and 36 bikes registered. This year, more than 600 riders were pre-registered, with last-minute walk-ins expected to bump the numbers well past 1,000. An obligatory minimum fee of $30 was required to take part in the ride, with all proceeds going to the Academy’s charitable fund. To date, the Academy has given more than $1.5 million to charities and organizations circling the globe. The funds are intended for programs focused on promoting awareness, growth, and education in music.
Other stars who took part in the ride include Craig Morgan and Richie McDonald. All four of the stars are nominated in the 42nd annual awards presentation on Tuesday. The awards show will be televised on CBS.
