The Price is Right Host Bob Barker Retiring
Bob Barker, host of "The Price is Right" will be retiring after his 35-year run on the hit game show.
"This year just seemed so right," he said to USA Today. "It's nice to leave the show while people are still lined up to see it." People camp out in sleeping bags outside of the studio, vying for a spot in the audience so that they may have the chance to get picked to guess if the price of an item is higher or lower.
Barker, 83, started hosting "The Price is Right" after being the host of "Truth or Consequences" for 18 years. The show was a remake of the 1956 original, which was hosted by Bill Cullen and produced by Bob Stewart.
The likeable and humorous host has won 17 Emmy awards- 13 for being a host, three as an executive producer, and one (the biggie) the Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award for Daytime Television in 1999. In addition, he was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2004.
CBS will honor Barker's legacy all of next week.
"After 50 years in show business and 35 years on CBS, we want to give Bob a prime-time send-off befitting of an entertainment icon, Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement.
