John Adams Featured on Latest Dollar Coin

U.S. Mint rolls out second design in their presidential dollar coin program.

In an effort to spark a renewal of interest for numismatists (coin-collectors), the U.S. Mint is rolling out new presidential dollar coins. Starting tomorrow, you'll be able to find the latest installment in the series, featuring the second U.S. President, John Adams. The Mint is hopeful that the novelty of seeing a new version of the dollar coin every three months will inspire more people to take up coin-collecting. Another motive is that people will grow accustomed to using dollar coins, but the skeptics believe that this will never happen until paper dollars are done away with completely. Nevertheless, the Mint is hopeful that consumers will put the coins to use in vending machines as well as other places where a dollar coin is more convenient than a fistful of quarters.

The dollar coin program follows the U.S. Mint's successful 50-State Quarters program, and will copy the successful formula of constantly changing designs. Each year, four different presidential coins will be released, following the order in which the men served.
