Ike Turner Wrongfully Imprisoned, LAPD Apologizes
18-May-2007

Singer spent the night in jail for computer glitch.
Singer Ike Turner attracted a policeman’s attention when the officer spotted the singer’s 2002 silver Mercedes-Benz straddling lanes and traveling 80 mph down Interstate 405 in the San Fernando Valley. When the officer ran a standard warrant check on his computer, an outstanding 1989 narcotics warrant popped up. So 75-year-old Turner found himself being hauled off to jail.
Then the warrant turned out to be invalid. Apparently, the whole thing was a glitch in the L.A. police computers. The ex-husband of singer Tina Turner was released from a downtown jail around 3 p.m. Thursday, when the error was discovered, but he’s still pretty torked about the whole thing. The overturned warrant was never removed from the system, resulting in the arrest for which LAPD are apologizing. But apparently, Turner is still filing a lawsuit for $5,000 for wrongful imprisonment. Turner spent approximately 15 hours in jail.
