Doggie Presents
Written by: Christine Coviello
Various presents for your favorite puppy.
So, I got a new puppy about three weeks ago. I never thought I would get a puppy, and I definatly never thought I would be one of those animal owners who buy everything possible for their pet. But yes, my name is Christine and I am one of those people. It happened over night. I never saw it coming. I fell in love. His name is Sparky and he is my new Papillion. So when you fall in love, you do everything in your power to make your pet the happiest, healthiest, and might I even say, ‘coolest" pet in the world.
My first product I tried was called Pearl Au Lait, a milk bath for dogs. It even comes in a cute bottle that has cow print on it, and it looks and feels thick and rich, like some special conditioner for hair. It actually looks quite similar to a bath product for humans. Pearl Au Lait is supposed to nourish the dog's skin and coat with natural milk protein. I found it to be very thick and actually a little hard to use at first. It took a lot of rinsing to feel like I got it to all rinse off, but once I did, and dried him off, I did notice a big change in the way his coat felt, much shinier and softer to the touch. He didn't smell better- but boy did he feel better! I would not recommend this product as a normal bathing product, because of the thickness, and lack of "fresh smelling dog" after use. But I would definitely recommend this product for a special washing –like a spa treatment! Look for this product in a store near you!
After you make your dog feel and smell nice, it is time to feed him. This is another area where new puppy owners could really go nuts in a pet store! There are so many varieties of food, with each one having a different specialty. Some are for certain types of puppies, some are organic, some are supposed to taste better... I was overwhelmed by the selection. I decided to try the Natural Life Pet Products brand bog food. This is a brand known to be good for pets with food allergies. They are also known to have the Lamaderm concept, which is a very healthy pet food with a lamb protein source. The have certain diets specially formulated for older dogs, low fat, etc. I personally just liked the fact that I actually understood everything listed as an ingredient.... Some of those other labels scared me! Sparky wasn't sure about this food as first, as it was a change in his diet, so he smelled it, played with it... then finally ate it! He loves it. I am glad because I know what I am feeding
him is good for him- and he is glad because well, lets face it- he is happy whenever he eats, he is a puppy. You can find more info at www.nlpp.com.
Now that my puppy was clean and fed it was time to take him out and show him off! I wanted to put him in the car, but I was nervous. He hated staying in his carrying case, and he couldn't sit on my lap if I was driving. I found the product to help any pet owner on the go, the Quick Stay Pet Seat Belt. It is by a company called Snap Backs. What made this car restraint so different from others I have seen or tried, was that this one so easily snapped onto my dogs collar. It also has a shock absorbing design built right in, that clips to your seat belt and then to him. It took two minutes to figure out, and we were on our way! This is great for when you are in a rush and do not have time to fiddle with confusing contraptions. I really love this product and leave it in the car ready to go. I like it so much – I am considering buying a second one for my husband's car so we are always ready for a spontaneous trip to the park with Sparky.
