Chambord Liqueur Royale de France
Written by: Margherita Miserandino
The top of the line liqour.
Chambord Liqueur Royale de France is a black raspberry flavored liqueur,
made in the Chambord region of France by Charles Jacquin Et
Cie. It is imported by La Maison De'Lan Et Cie. (I'm so glad I only had
to type that and not pronounce it!)
It used to be a popular drink among
nobility, especially Louis XIV. This is pretty evident from the very regal looking bottle, with a crown on the top. Even if you are
not much of a drinker this bottle will look very impressive on any shelf.
Chambord continues to be made in the same 300-year-old
tradition, with black and red raspberries, currants and
blackberries, steeped in cognac and other spirits. Acacia honey, herbs and
spices, such as cinnamon and cloves, are then added to it. This makes for a
very sweet drink, tasting like a dessert, with only 16.5 percent
alcohol. I would think these qualities would make Chambord a pretty
popular drink! It has a beautiful aroma of black raspberries and a deep
purple color. I find Chambord to be a very versatile liqueur. Besides
drinking it straight, it tastes absolutely delicious paired with champagne
and wine punches. It can enhance a variety of dessert recipes, especially
any dishes with berries. My favorite use, poor it over some vanilla ice
cream for an adult sundae! It's great over ice cream because of its slight
thickness- it just sticks to the ice cream and gives it a great color.
