Swiffer
Written by: Michael Mardings

A story reflecting the joys and loves of owning a Swiffer.

The makers of Swiffer have created more than a cleaning product, they've created a cult. A religious cult? No, but an impassioned cult none the less. A cult of people who not only use the products, but obsessively wander their halls "swiffing" things. The cult's members swear by all things Swiffer. For some reason, people are completely in love with their Swiffers and I wanted to find out why.

Having received a press pack, we decided to let it loose and watch the reaction in the office.

John swears by the original Swiffer Duster. It's a simple device, but it has cast a hypnotic spell on the man. He runs around the office pushing the Swiffer attempting to get the room completely clean, then he looks at the pull-away pad and smiles in an indigent sort of manner.

Maria grabbed the Swiffer duster and proceeded to dust everything and we mean everything. She only felt satisfied when the pad of the Swiffer started to look black. If the cleaning pad didn't look black, she didn't feel satisfied. Her only regret was that the handle was only about a foot long so she couldn't get the ceiling fan.

Then, there was me; I was entranced by my "toy." A Swiffer Wet Jet. What did it do? Well, like the regular Swiffer, you push it and it cleans, but wait, there's a button. I was entranced by it. When I pressed the button a liquid shot out of the front that you could use to scrub the floor. I pressed. I moved. I giggled with joy. I was now a part of the cult.

It's not the fact of what it does, but it's like tic-tac-toe. It's the simplicity of the action and the simplicity of the results. Overall, it leaves you feeling satisfied.

Am I saying that the products are good? No. That would be an understatement. We are now caught in the cult and dust is no longer in the office. Just like every other Swiffer owner, I am now in love.
