Keurig Home Brewing System
Written by: Michael Mardings
The simple and easy way to make a single cup of coffee.
There is something inherently beautiful about being a bachelor. While my fiancée Maria disagrees, the idea of being my own boss is rather satisfying. That said, the lack of desire to clean up and organize is quite common.
There are two reasons that I normally don't make coffee in my apartment. Reason one is the setup. Measure this, fill that, grind this. Not fun. Reason two is that I have to then clean up the whole damn mess, just for a stupid cup of coffee. I usually just run down to the local Starbucks and call it a day.
The Keurig is a mammoth black coffee machine that, although strange and futuristic, handles everything as any futuristic device should. Basically, you fill the thing up with water, and leave it plugged in. It then constantly keeps the water heated and ready for coffee.
For the coffee it uses its own system of k-cups which has coffee from various brands- Gloria's coffee, green mountain, you get the idea. The k-cup looks like a double sized half and half container, like you'd see on the table at your diner. You pop in the k-cup of your choice and it boils the water and sends the hot water through the k-cup with a large needle. Pop. Pop. Then, there's your coffee.
The beauty is that there's next to no clean up. You throw away the k-cup and you're done. That's really it. No pot to wash, just your mug.
That said, I have to be balanced and say the negatives. The coffee does cost about 40 to 50 cents a cup so it's slightly more than "regular" coffee, but than again you're saving money by not making a pot for one person. Also, for a party of 10 it's probably not the most effective, unless you want to have fun divvying up a variety pack and having a tasting party.
Conclusion: great for singles and small couples, and great for clean up.
