Who knew that printing labels could be so addictive?

While my fiance' Michael seems to feel that labeling everything is a bit over compulsive and "anal", it makes me happy. The sense of organization is slightly akin to the happiness I feel when I eat chocolate or get flowers. Okay, not that happy, but there is a distinct sense of clean.

I am the type that loves to label. I label food that I froze. I label boxes in the closet. I label drawers. The house might have an extra sticker or two, but isn't that a small price to pay for organization?

I used to use a Brother P-touch but the new Dymo system brought me to an entirely different level. Instead of typing on the little Brother pad, I can now type on the computer and it can print directly into the Dymo little printer. It's about 6 inches long by 3 inches wide and looks a little like a hard shelled mini-shoebox, but it can handle all of the printing.

First off, the software has a familiar interface, if you're familiar with Microsoft Word. Not only can you do the standard typing with various fonts, but you can import graphics, put in bar codes and import addresses. This brought up entirely new uses.

Now I could print out all of the office's shipping labels in seconds, instead of hours. I could import the Christmas list in a blink. I could even make a bar code of each address, for whatever purpose that would serve.

The machine can be fitted with various types of labels from regular size to even the type of labels that make up security badges. I printed up Security Badges for the entire office and made sure everybody wore them. They didn't find it as funny, but I enjoyed it.

Overall, it really does work like a dream. The set up is easy, the interface is easy and there's no worries. And talk about ease, it takes two seconds to print, and since it's using Thermal Print technology, it never needs to have the ink changed.

It's much easier than doing the job by hand or using any of the old hand-held devices.
