Baldur's Gate - Dark Alliance II
Written by: Angela Corry
The first was good, the second is even better...
I have been a Baldur's Gate addict since the first game I played on all three hardness levels and beat it twice. So when I heard part two was coming out I couldn't wait. I was not disappointed at all. Dark Alliance II has new characters to develop. I have used the cleric and the monk, and have partnered with the barbarian and the
necromancer. I didn't get to play with the rogue as of yet. I found it
easier to beef up their skills and armor this time.
The general idea of the game is that you are an adventurer saving
Baldur's Gate from evil. There are a course of tasks you must accomplish,
each with it's own reward. As you fight, you gain strength and skills. From two-handed weapons, to magic power and physical strength, you can enhance your character however you see fit.
I think the only thing I would have liked to see is being able to keep the
same developed character from the previous game. Even after three times, my character was not fully developed. On this version, I pretty much stuck
with the monk who, after a series of wins, added a whole new set of skills.
That was cool to get another batch of skills to enhance, especially the
magic ones. Even with the cleric, who wasn't much for combat, the magic was
almost more useful at some points. I had her paired with the barbarian and
that was a sweet combination of ferocity and magic.
As you progress, the levels of course get harder. This time, instead
of remaining in Baldur's Gate you travel to different regions on a map and
beat the bad guys, all of which are united under one big bad guy. There are
even uglier creatures, more zombies and, thank goodness, no lizards.
The levels get more creative as you go on and, as usual, the more you play the more you want to play. I've gotten up to the final bad guy and once I finish, I will, of course, play again, and wait patiently for part three to be developed.
