Senseo

SenseoThe one-cup coffee machine is now a home brewing rage. We've reviewed the Keurig, but it seems that there are a few dozen other models just floating around out there. This time we had a look at the Senseo.

It's an odd looking device like the Keurig, and yes, it produces coffee in record time. It's not as much of a powerhouse, which in this case was advantageous as it didn't dim the office lights. That made Nelson the business manager quite frustrated.

Anyway, the unit has one major advantage which in turn might be a disadvantage. The little Senseo pods turn out to be reasonably priced. Nearly half of the competitors cost. In addition, you can put in two pods and make two cups of coffee. However, where they trick you is that one cup of coffee is considered only four ounces. Clearly, not a "man sized" cup, which in turn will cause the price to double.

That said, how was the coffee? Somehow it creates this little frothlike cappuccino that Maria in the office found quite cute. Nelson found it a bit "metrosexual" and was confused by it, but he agreed it tasted good. They have a few varieties but all within the family line of Douwe Egberts from the Netherlands. A big plus if you like their coffee, but not if you want hazelnut or other types.

Overall, it made a damn good coffee and got me down to drinking only four ounces a time instead of the usual eight. It also seemed to be more reasonably priced than the competitors and, of course, everybody liked the frothing.
