BlueParrot Versus GN Netcom. Completely different, but both Bluetooth

Two completely different Bluetooth headsets, but each gives you an idea where the Bluetooth headset market is and where it’s going.

First of all, what is a Bluetooth headset? Simply, Bluetooth is a wireless type of technology that works on short ranges. It also has a rather fancy sounding name which makes people quite happy.

Well the first one in this review is the Blue Parrot, which besides conveniently using the blue in the name is also a snazzy looking headset. It’s reported to work up to 75 feet, however in our testing, through the concrete walls of the office it went about 50 feet safely. I do suppose in a rather large 75 foot open area it would work all of the way.

It also is a traditional, over the head kind of device and really works pretty easily with your existing phone line. In that sense it was a favorite because it was a nice transition to a headset. The only downside was that you really wanted to make sure it was charged because when the charge started dying down, well so did the quality of the signal. At the end we sound a bit like a rather horse Darth Vader screaming down a long pipe.

The complete other type of Bluetooth headset was the GN Netcom GN6210 which is one of those wrap around things that people seem to leave in their ears lately. Not something pleasant to see. Anyway, it’s major pluses are that it’s small and convenient and has an entire “system” that goes with it. This seems to be for those professionals who love to have the latest and greatest.

While it has the slick, new styled, in your ear kind of look it has attachments to do anything. It has an attachment to lift the headset receiver remotely if you can’t pick up the phone. It can handle working seamlessly from your office phone to your cell phone. What? Your cell phone isn’t Bluetooth? Not only does it dice and slice, it also has an attachment to turn any phone into a Bluetooth phone.

Between the range of the more familiar BlueParrot headset to the in your ear GN Netcom you have dozens of variants, but hopefully this will give you a bit of an idea of what’s out there.
