Father's Day Gifts
Written by: TheCelebrityCafe.com Staff

It's that time of year again when you are in search of that cool gift for Dad. Here are some great ideas beside socks!

RediChek Roast Alert
Maverick Industries, Inc.Our friends at Shopping.com want us to eat well and cook right. The first step in cooking right is to make certain that meat is cooked correctly. Many ovens are not as accurate as their dials would suggest. From the people who make the thermometer in the fork for barbequing comes the RediChek Roast Alert. A nice roast is a large roast and the interior temperature is not easy to estimate. So why do it? The probe is set in the meat in the oven with the gauge outside. The unit signals when the roast is done, almost done or lastly, forget about it and order take out!

Warm & Tote This is a cute little item and a bit of a twist on the lunch box. You want the Dad in your life to eat healthy instead of running to the closest fast food chain. This product contains a single energy storage pack that holds the heat or cold for several hours and lets you prepare several snacks at once like for a long plane or car trip. Small compact yet still available to hold several sandwiches, I think I could make some money by selling hot roast beef on the plane.

Lynco Golf Orthotics The box label gives the best golfing advice "The perfect swing starts with your feet." So true! If you can't walk on the course you can't golf. But it's more than that. These shoe inserts will help balance the body and spread the weight evenly over the foot for correct balance and foot alignment. Then the rest of the swing is up to you. They come in the usual variety of common sizes. If you can't afford a German engineered car then at least treat yourself to German engineered footwear, and besides you won't have to gas it up.

Powersquid Surge Protector Use this, don't eat it! The power squid is a surge protector with a better idea: flexible extensions to accommodate the large adaptors that seem to overflow a strip socket. The joule ratings are higher than typical, the construction is better than typical, and the noise reduction in the line is better than typical. Get the picture: it's better than typical and isn't your equipment worth it.

Neatreceipts Scanalizer Just as the name implies this tool will scan the receipt, recognize the category to put it in and place it there. It can also export the new file into a common accounting program for use in booking or tax returns. The slowest thing about it is the fact that the paper must be fed into it since there is not yet an automatic feeder. It is lightweight for portable use but practically speaking once set up for a specific computer why change and go through a resetting of the controls to accommodate the new one.

Swann Security "Affordable security", these are two words that should be on everyone's lips. In fact, you might add high tech to them because affordable describes them both. All that you imagine you want in security in an affordable package. Just look at the site! For too long the ordinary citizens have had to put up with petty vandalism because it was enough to be annoying and not "important" enough to call the cops. Reasonably affordable security is the mantra of the day and Swann delivers. Since a remote camera and a recording device can be all the proof you need, now you can put those bandits away or at least get their parents to pay up. Get on the website, order the product and stop belly aching. You really think Homeland security is going to listen to you.

RYOBI MultiTaskit Laser level Kit This is the ultimate yuppie tool. This is a kit with four specific tools for four specific jobs. A vacuum base holds onto the wall, ceiling, floor or car hood and allows four tools to perform functions even a magician would find troubling. The most practical for me is the laser line level. By myself I can hang pictures in a straight line. Another attachment acts as a little plastic hand to hold things close to the wall. There is even a LED light that I can put anywhere the vacuum can suck! I know some are thinking if they paint a hallway, won't they knock over a cup of coffee that sits on the floor. Yes they will, but with the Multitaskit they just place the base against the wall, use the magnetic tray. The base sucks to the wall while you drink away. Yeah!!!

Techno Source's Sudoku Mega Touch Screen Here's a new idea: use your brain as well as a computer! A computer generated Sudoku puzzle machine. In addition, one can input existing puzzles for ease of mobility. If you don't use it you lose it and too many drivers on the highway have lost it. Obviously they don't play Sudoku because they lost it. Maybe that should be a new ad campaign: show people who act brainless because they didn't play Sudoku. Mmmm… that's a million dollar idea! I can practice on the Sudoku illuminated mega touch screen, but not while I'm driving.

Wenger Swiss Army Knives I do a little bit part time camping, just a weekend here and there, so I really need what works because it may be a while before I get back to it again. The Wenger Knives are different. This Evolution Series is a new thing to hit the market. I have and will use it as often as possible while keeping it close by. It almost a unbelievable how a simple change in handle design make the knife feel as if it was fit to my hand. The model I use is the Evolution S17. As with all Swiss Army Knives it has the additional comfort tools but the main blade and its utility seems to be made easier by the ergonomic handle. Even cutting rope at a safe but awkward angle is made safer and easier by the easy grip. The blade also has a mid-stop to prevent accidents when closing. All the fancy stuff is ok but the main blade has to work when I need it. This does and I like it.

Jack Black's Latest Idea for Dad. "Shave in a bag", contains the three important elements of every shave: preparation, execution and the grand finale. "Face Buff" is used to scrub the face clean, tighten the face muscles and allow the little fuzz to stand up for death. Beard Lube helps the blade cut easier and softens the skin for the inevitable, "Nice shave, let me kiss it." Yeah, life is tough but shaving doesn't have to be.

The third element of our shaving troika is the Post Shave Cooling Gel to soothe skin irritation, razor burn and protect against infections. After all you're scrapping the top layer of skin off. But…there is no blade in the bag. So stick one in and give it a complete gift. Top it off with a good after shave smell, Jack Black's Signature series: Silver Mark, Blue Mark and Black Mark. The common word is "mark". The labels give a subtle warning: Liquid Magnetism. I say splash a lot on before the kiss and you might forget about dinner. For more hints, go ask Jack.

Delightful Deliveries
Father's Day Gift Baskets
You want an original gift for dad, look here. Fast, easy and you'll get full credit. After ordering for your father, send one over to me.

Father's Day Chocolate Box
Nobody realizes that this box is over a pound of gourmet chocolate so Dad can share the chocolate pretzels as a fake-out to Mom, the kids, friends that wander in for the day but when they are gone he consumes the box. They think they are saving him from his sweet tooth but in fact it's the box he wanted all along and the chocolate pretzels were a bonus.

Patio Daddy-O
This is a neat little gift to bring for the Barbequing Dad although it could also be called Patio Mommy-O. The wicker cookout basket is small enough to go to the park with a lunch for those "Daddy and baby days" and make it really special for both. The chips and spicy salsa are for daddy while the recipe book is being read out loud to the baby. Although, you might as well pack baby a lunch too, you know the kid just loves to be with you. In fact this is an ideal basket to give to me and then leave me alone. By the way, the oven mitt is soft enough to wipe baby's face.

Dremel Stylus
Every house needs a Dremel: for the small jobs where power and speed is needed but big equipment won't help. Goggles and a mask go on first, because the tool operates at such high speed that the filings can be polluting. Then, easy does it because forcing the tool to work usually means that the operator has put the wrong accessory in. This is the tool for you to take time to plan and enjoy the work. Admit that you don't know everything and get started having fun. By the way check out the web site for hints and suggestions.

Link Hand Tools
If your use a ratchet set regularly or just a few times, you want it to work right with totally no hassle. Link Tools has a style where the socket locks on to the ratchet and simply won't come off until you want it to. It's tough, has clean lines, easy to use, all in a molded kit. Put it where only you can get at it. By the way, a chrome unidriver drive tool is also available as an accessory item. This baby shines so well I think I may have it engraved for a gift.

Green Friendly Golf Company
Green Friendly Golf Belt
This is not just a repeat of the company name but a practical golf tool in the form of a stylish belt. The Divot Tool is in the buckle and twists the ball mark out of the turf. There is also a small ball marker behind the buckle. The only thing left to alleviate is the bending over. Actually this belt is a subtle nudge back to the old time respect for the game. I've noticed quite a few jeans and sneakers at the club. Perhaps a Father's Day gift of a Golf Belt to the sons will encourage a quality "dress up" on the course.

ARC Freedom Antenna
Here's an idea that I have been waiting on. "Freedom Antenna" has a supplemental antenna for a cell phone or a wi-fi computer. Last month, I got yelled at by my company accountant for roaming charges. I thought I was in my cell zone but since reception in the office is not that good, I was apparently thrown into another company's service area and charged extra for the privilege of answering the phone. Too much of that and the antenna will pay for itself. Go ahead and check your cell bills maybe you paid for it already.

Tanita InnerScan Body Composition Monitor
This scale does it all so well that I would be afraid it would find out about the cheesecake I had last night. By stepping on the foot pads a slight electric monitoring charge goes up one foot and down the other. It is so light there is hardly a tingle and who knows work the machine right and a tingle at night may lead to a thrill before morning. The recommendation is to weigh in at the same time each day, say before dinner. The machine will measure: body fat, water percentage and daily calorie intake, bone mass and even measure weight. With this information my friend Dr. Len can make up a diet for a healthier body and good looking me… as if I needed help.

Black Diamond Ion
Ultra Light Headlamp
This is one of the newer aspects in the lighting revolution. Oh you didn't know about the changes in flashlight gear? Get on the bus! LED or light emitting diodes are the future of home lighting. Black Diamond has incorporated this technology into a strap on to your head flashlight. Were you look is what you'll see. Compact for outdoor use, it fits easily into the glove box for late night tire changing or when you can't seem to get enough light to look at the engine or in the trunk while keeping you hands free to work.

Plantronics
Easy-to-Use Bluetooth Headset
What's eating your ear? What looks like a cicada has landed on your head but it answers the phone and everyone has one? It's the Bluetooth Headset. Simply put it connects with your phone in the pocket and is a great convenience while wearing a large earring. A battery charger and one tiny button can answer your calling needs and you are not holding a cell phone. Also you really can walk, talk and hold packages too. Ask for a raise since you'll be doing three things at once.

Hydrapak
Portable water container for outdoor activities
Last fall we went to a spa for hiking and biking. All the staff was wearing water reserve packs while I either held a stupid bottle in one hand or had it sticking out of my pocket for an entire two hour hike. They come in various sizes like 2 or 3 liters and are comfortably designed to attach to your backpack or wear with their own backpack setup. The drinking tube is designed for privacy and a clean delivery of the water and the reservoir can be turned inside out for cleaning. This unit was made for the professionals but was meant to be used by everyone.

Excalibur
Bar Master Deluxe
Convenience comes in the shape of a little pocket flask. It uses 4 AA batteries to help present alcoholic concoctions in a sophisticated little production that screams: "I am upper crusty". From the type of glass to enhance the taste, to exact measurements for most mixed drinks, Bar Master Deluxe does it all except drive the car home. The 1950's are back, hard liquor is back, mixed drinks are back. Can a leopard skin vest be far behind? Rob Roy, Puritan, several martini types, history, geography, math and good conversation come to the person who can enjoy entertaining and mixing the right drinks at the right time. Don't be embarrassed be popular!

Front Porch Classics
Kids are becoming fashionable and being a family is popular again. Front Porch Classics recognizes this "new" old trend games that the whole family can play. First blow up the computer and the television, in that order, for safety sake please. Then gather up those living humanoids that look like little adults, although with mindless glaring eyes searching for the next button to push. Finally explain that batteries are not necessary, lights are not needed and that only ones mind is required. You have entered the new family zone. Where quiet civilized games are the norm, don't you sometimes wish life was a quiet game. Get started teach the next generation about family games, start them young and maybe they will let you play when you get old. But always remember conversation and socialization goes with each game.

Word Spot
Letter tiles are laid out on the table in a large square where in alternating turns, marking tokens are placed over the words that are spotted among the random letters. Meant for two people, low lights and quite conversation I think this must be the first game that helps prepare the couple for the rest of the family. It comes within a coffee table wooden box, compact and classy, inviting one to play…just for a magical everlasting moment…with you.

Boneyard Dominoes
Double-six Domino Set
An easy relaxing starting game that every adult knows how to play somewhere in their brain but that video kids have never heard of. The wooden box is in the shape of a domino tile and contains all the classic sized dominoes for a family of two to four participants. Patience and practice always win out. Shut-the-Box

The game's ancient history and design seems to be one of being aboard ship perhaps after a battle, the waves rolling, the boat pitching and rain lightly falling. This is a game to relax the mind, start conversation and enable the camaraderie of experience to drawn friends together and make enemies a little less aggressive.

Cloudveil - Inspired Mountain Apparel
The label offered all the information I needed to know: "sun-blocking, quick-drying and looks respectable when pulled from a duffel bag. The colors are deep and pure, and the lines are so straight I have to lose weight so that the buttons fall nicely. When they said the fabric was cool and soft and easy to clean, I took them at their word and immediately wore the shirt to do lawn work. No problem and I always looked good. The romance of my outdoor athletics has long since dimmed and faded but comfort and ease of maintenance is what I am now after and Cloudveil delivered.

Bite Golf Trekker
Among the many styles of Bite shoes is the golf trekker that has been specifically designed to be the only pair of shoes that would be needed on an outdoor trip that covered golfing, hiking, camping or just about any outdoor sport where foot grip and comfort is the key to enjoyment. Lightweight and waterproof why bring ordinary sneakers. Sure you might want to play a little basketball, fall, break an ankle and ruin the trip. Look good, safe and secure while packing light. Take care of you feet…the alternative is a bad trip.

Oster Inspire Collection Electric Wine Opener
I can see that you have never held a wine bottle between you knees trying to pull out the cork, only to have the cork crack apart and fall into the bottle. Nor do I see you as the continental type of person to hit the wine bottle on a concrete step with a flick of the wrist, to neatly break off the stem leaving the precious fluid minimally shaken not stirred… up. Yes, you like wine, my lovely, but you can't open the damn bottle. Stop fooling around get the tool, do it right, and let's get back to what's important.
