Destination Maternity is not a store- it is an experience
I recently visited their flagship store in New York City and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. What’s not to like? You can shop, have a facial and take a relaxing yoga class. These are probably three of my favorite things to do anyway. What makes Destination Maternity special is that as you might have guessed by its name, it caters to pregnant women. Every spa treatment caters either to expectant or new moms. The store carries all the merchandise offered by Motherhood, Motherhood Nursing, Motherhood Plus, Mimi Maternity and A Pea in a Pod. You can purchase your entire maternity wardrobe here from tank shirts to evening gowns. Their items vary in price as well- you could buy a t-shirt for $9 or $50.
My experience began in the Edamame Spa where I received their signature Absolute Pearl Facial. The Spa itself was beautifully decorated and their relaxation room was very comfortable and soothing- especially the lounge chair right next to the tranquil sounds of water flowing. The facial included real crushed pearl powder that helps to even out discoloration often caused by pregnancy. Not only did I feel pampered, but also my skin was less red and felt very smooth.
After my treatment I went shopping and found some great buys on summer tanks, as well as bathing suits. I also purchased tights and pantyhose- the only place I’ve found them! The experienced sales staff was very helpful in assisting me with sizes and a fitting room. They continually put any items I was carrying in a dressing room for me and were quick to find me alternate sizes. Great customer service and selection with a huge clearance rack- what could be better?
After shopping I enjoyed a prenatal yoga class. There were only four women in the class and the instructor was very knowledgeable. We went through many poses and postures that alleviate many issues like back and hip pain and edema. I not only felt limber and loose but also left the class with an arsenal of techniques I can use at home.
Every pregnant women needs to find their closest Destination Maternity and go. It is a great way to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Future dads, I hope you are listening because they have gift certificates and spa packages. I can’t think of a better gift!
