MP3s and iPod Gift Guide
Written by: TheCelebrityCafe.com Staff
It seems like one of the crazes this year for the holidays is anything iPod or MP3 related. Here are our favorites for easy and cool listening.
Keyspan AV Dock for iPod
The AV Dock is an enhancement for the little iPod, to help pump it up into an audio muscle machine. Adapters provide compatibility of model designs and it connects to "any" computer, stereo or TV. The universal dock also has an RF-based remote that is strong enough to go through walls and maintain its signal strength. So one can sit, perhaps reading in the bathroom, and turn on the music in a different room. Maybe even make it loud enough to hear through the walls. Comfort knows no bounds. Perfect no, but useful yes…just wait until next year.
Marware Sportsuit for iPod Protection
Look, let's face it. The iPod is more than just a music box and could contain business notes, photos and even training motivators, like the words "YOU CAN DO IT!" shouted annoyingly loud, thousands of times over and over. Still, it has become part of your life and the sooner you acknowledge it, the sooner it can wear something appropriate for its status. Marware has secure iPod cases, both in hardcase and leather, for the shoulder, or a handheld when jogging. Hiking is no problem with a case that has tiny bungee clips or a belt clip. At the gym, with all that heavy equipment, get a hardcase to protect that little feller. There is also a tiny little case called a Sidewinder, that has a hold for the buds and wire to wind around on the side…hence the name. Many of the styles are also designed for a Nano, so size is no excuse. Around the arm, belt or neck, you're not completely dressed without Marware.
SanDisk Sansa MP3 Player
SanDisk has used its lower production costs and product distribution system to put out a good MP3 player. It's less expensive, just as good and carries more tunes than any other unit on the market. This is almost a business textbook move. My congratulations to the SanDisk company! Already our staff has put about three homemade movies on the Sansa, and I fully expect that soon I will be able to download and play contemporary films and TV shows. I love this country!
Corgi iCar Desktop Amplifier for your 'Pod
This is another in the class of "What to give someone who has everything." Everyone has a small radio at their desk - why not make it a conversation piece as well? The Cadillac Escalade is the ultimate in car cool; the model is 1:24 scale replica and the name Corgi tells the world it's classy. You can use the on board music or connect your own MP3 player, so that you're "cruising" at work and probably more productive too.
Altec Lansing Speaker Systems
The benefits of an iPod are the small size of the unit, its large memory and ease of portability. Two of these can become deficits when you try to share the music or play the iPod at a party. Eight to ten people huddled around earphones trying to dance is neither pretty nor comfortable. Altec Lansing offers some solutions: an inMotion Mobile Audio Speaker System and the more sedate living room model M602 iPod Speaker System. Both take the tiny iPod and give it the muscle, God never intended. Pure devil incarnate! These sound systems take ordinary electricity from the wall and use it as a power anvil to thrash amplification from a meek iPod and cause it to do things strange and wonderful.
Freestyle Audio Fusion DMP Waterproof Digital Music Player
The name says it all, but look on the net for discounts, as it is a little pricy. Strap it on the arm, do the surf, go swimming or even wash the car. There are a couple of cautions: make certain the headset is clicked in to seal the connection and it's good for 10 feet below the surface; so don't take it diving unless the wreck is within the 10 feet. There are some limits, but for beachwear, this is perfect. Unless, of course, this is the only thing you wear at the beach, then people would question what's around your neck and never notice your… ah… bellybutton.
Maxell Products
Maxell Flat Speakers and Subwoofer enters the marketplace as a home based or a semi-portable system for audio amplification. Imagine the little 'pods types producing a boom box sound. The older TV with headset plugs are particularly boosted into the contemporary world, as are the older small, portable radios. Why change what you already have when it can be brought up to date with the flat speakers?
Two styles: a whole ear eater and a little tiny taste. Instead of the ear buds, some folks like the old-style, larger ear cups that seem to consume the whole ear, but cut off all noise. Noise Cancellation Headphones can be used in safe locations like the airport, train stations, etc., where homeland security protects the masses. Others prefer a lighter type that doesn't weigh heavy on the ears. Either style is produced by the electronic master, Maxell.
O ROKR Bluetooth Stereo Eyewear Oakley and Motorola
Sunglasses that hold an MP3 player and are bluetooth enabled so you can answer the phone. Of course, if you're a steelworker, they may distract you from the safety officer who yells "watch out!," so the normal cautions apply. I saw a guy on the subway wearing these and they looked good. I didn't realize he was answering his phone too. I remember the days when doing nothing meant just that. Today just walking down the street can be a time to return calls and do business.
Banshee Listening Station for the iPod or MP3 Player
The Banshee is a portable amplification system for the 'pod people. It's a little unit in a big box. The pod holder is an extra piece that can be added to the rear of the unit. A little shaving off the front, a dab of super glue gel and it's done. The Banshee is compact for the office or the bedroom. There are three models, including the one that is used in video gaming. Total immersion isn't far away.
Lightcast
In short, this is a light show in a box that reacts to your iPod tunes. The unit is small and compact, yet powerful enough to fill a room and add atmosphere to a party. The Lightcast uses LED lighting and a system of reflectors to make the music dance on the walls and ceiling. The box has pictures of people dancing, but in the office, the mellower mode was very relaxing.
