Summer has arrived. And it’s the perfect time to enjoy a few glasses of fine wine with friends, family, and that special someone.

Bedell Cellars

Whether it’s an afternoon picnic with your sweetheart or a relaxing evening after a dinner with good friends, Bedell Cellars wine is guaranteed to be a hit. Their unique wine blends are the result of painstaking attention to every conceivable detail, from the vine all the way to the bottle.

This Long Island-based winery is a rising star in the wine industry due in great part to their combination of cutting edge wine technology and vineyard agriculture with contemporary art. They’re committed to raising the bar when it comes to wine making. This dedication has captured the attention of New Line Cinemas Co-CEO Michael Lynne, who was looking to buy a winery and fell in love with Bedell. It has also attracted world-class talents in the wine business: wine consultant Pascal Marty (formerly of Chateau Mouton Rothschild) and a rising star, winemaker John Irving Levenberg (formerly of Paul Hobbs Winery in Napa).

Bedell Cellars lays claim to the prestige of being the most sophisticated winery in the Long Island region. Good wine needs the right amount of sunlight and soil quality, and Bedell’s wine makers carry the quality to its peak with the very latest in wine technology. Bedell uses a process which handles the grapes as little as possible, ensuring that only the ripe and supple skin tannins make it into the wine, not the stem and seed tannins, which give wine a harsher flavor. Once the wine is perfected it’s sealed in specially designed bottles featuring contemporary art.

One of their most popular lines, Taste, features a label designed by artist Barbara Kruger and comes in two varieties: the first a red wine blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah; the second a citrusy white blend of Viognier, Chardonnay, and Gewurztraminer. Their wines have achieved critical acclaim and awards from publication like the Wine Spectator, Wines & Vines, and The New Yorker. Bedell Cellars continues to pursue perfection in the art of wine-making and strives to be numbered among the finest wineries in the world.

Visit Bedell’s vineyards and spend an afternoon sampling their selections in the wine-tasting room, a historic building that was once a potato barn, dating back to 1919. The building once housed the wine-making process itself when founder Kip Bedell started Bedell Cellars in 1985. Featured in the wine-tasting room is an extensive gallery of contemporary art for your viewing pleasure. View pieces by artists such as Cindy Sherman, Sam Taylor Wood, Uta Barth and Sarah Morris while you sip one of Bedell’s painstakingly perfected blends. Or visit the new outdoor grand tasting pavilion, which offers visitors a breathtaking view of Bedell’s hundreds of acres of vineyards and the surrounding countryside.

Or just order a bottle of fine wine to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. Bedell offers many affordably-priced varieties ranging from $16-$45 a bottle. And for wine connoisseurs there is always Bedell’s 2001 Reserve Merlot Magnum, a limited edition wine featuring label art by noted artist Eric Fischl, priced at $200 per bottle.
