Sam Moran, the Yellow Wiggle

Gina DiFalco

The Wiggles have been entertaining and educating children for nearly two decades. This Australian quartet has gone through some changes, but the essence remains the same. The Wiggles are taking their show on the road … as a circus! TheCelebrityCafe.com's Gina DiFalco spoke with Sam Moran, the Yellow Wiggle, about the Wiggly Circus Live Tour and what makes the Wiggles so popular with children.

TheCelebrityCafe: How is your new “Wiggly Circus Live Tour” different than previous tours?

Sam Moran: This tour incorporates circus elements such as acrobats, gymnasts and juggling that we’ve never done before. We try to do a lot of stunts ourselves.

TCC: How do you prepare for a show? Any routines?

SM: Well we do several shows a day, but since the show requires us to have such high-energy we try to keep calm and relaxed so that we are ready for the high levels of energy when we get out there.

TCC: How do you think the Wiggles’ approach to educational learning benefits children?

SM: We never talk down to the children and try to incorporate entertainment that is child-focused. Early childhood is important in a child’s life and since some of us have early childhood education backgrounds, we are able to bring those elements into the show. We try to speak on their level and never talk down to the children.

TCC: What kind of music are you inspired by?

SM: We, as a group, try to incorporate all styles of music into our show so that the shows are not tied down to one style of music. We expose the kids to different types of music and try to make it catchy. We also try to get the parents involved as much as possible.

TCC: How did the Wiggles come about? How did you get the idea to form a children's group?

SM: Jeff and Anthony were a part of an 80s rock band and it was really Anthony’s idea to get the group together. Anthony, Jeff and Greg started to write children’s music for one of their music projects in college and it developed from there.

TCC: How do you explain your success?

SM: Our background in early childhood education and psychology has a lot to do with it, and we know that if you really enjoy what you do then that rings true to the children. If we don’t have fun while performing then the kids won’t have fun.
