Jamia Nash -

By: Lawanda Johnson

You probably know her as Ana Hamilton on the daytime soap

TheCelebrityCafe.com's Lawanda Johnson spoke with Jamia about the charity, singing at the Oscars, and working on television.

Lawanda Johnson: I hear you are singing for Build-A-Bear Workshop's Love. Hugs. Peace Movement. Can you tell me more about that?

Jamia Nash: Love. Hugs. Peace is to show an act of kindness. So more than 235,000 kids around the world has made an impact for this cause and that's a big step. I'm happy about that.

LJ: What is one act of kindness that you've done this week?

JN: Like today I asked if I could volunteer to help the special needs children at my school. I invited them to sit at my table with my friends and we all get along great.

LJ: That's very nice. You are also participating in Save the Children organization. How is that connected to Love. Hugs. Peace?

JN: I meet with the Hugs. Love. Peace campaign and we will raise money for kids who are in need for things. Now more than $120,000 has been raised for Save the Children. I have become a role model, so people can see what I'm doing. I love this doing this! It was an honor that they chose me. That's what I'm all about.

LJ: You sing the signature song, "Talk About Love" for Love. Hugs. Peace. You must be very excited about that?

JN: Yes! The song speaks about what the world needs and what the individual needs. This song can be about a teen with problems in the home or for adults as well. People can relate to this song. They all need love, hugs, and peace. That's what I'm all about.

Also people can visit Build-A-Bear Workshop's website and on its page, you can donate a dollar to Save the Children. When you do that, you will receive a download card of "Talk About Love" as a thank you.

LJ: I can tell that that is an important cause… I saw your performance on the 80th Annual Academy Awards and you were marvelous. How does it feel to be the youngest African American to perform on the Oscar's telecast?

JN: That is a great feeling. God showed me that I could be the first one ever. We had a nomination for the movie "August Rush." It was great! When I was there I saw familiar faces and some new faces as well.

LJ: You play Ana Hamilton on "The Young and the Restless," which is the number one daytime soap opera. What was it like to work with an amazing cast?

JN: That was great for me. It was nice to meet some of the old cast members. I appreciate them all. All of the people are great. I am proud to be on the longest and successful show running. The cast is great. The directors are too. My grandmother watches the show and she loves it. (Giggles) It's fun telling her what happens and what is going on.

LJ: Do you have any funny moments to share while you were on set, for an example like an inside joke or forgetting your lines.

JN: I did! (laughter) I had a blooper where I messed up the Mr. and Mrs. I said Mr. for the woman and Mrs. For the man. I said, "Mrs. Neil and Mr. Karen." The only thing I could do was to start laughing. I was embarrassed! Sometimes I even stumble over the words... It is hard.

LJ: What are you most passionate about singing or acting?

JN: I love to sing. I grew up singing. Acting is second to me. I believe that I was born to sing.

LJ: What is your advice to young girls that wants to accomplish some of the things you have achieved thus far?

JN: My advice would be to be confident, follow your dreams and believe in yourself. You will go far.

LJ: So, you have started a new school year. What grade are you in now? What are your favorite subjects?

JN: I'm in the eighth grade now. I love it. Even though last year, junior high was sad, I had fun, but I got to grow up. Um, I love math and English…I don't know why I said English (laughter). I love math and science.

LJ: I love English! (laughs). Those are very tough, but good subjects too. Well, Jamia it was a pleasure.

JN: Thank you.
