Triumph of Love, The
While riding through the countryside, a princess (Mira Sorvino) catches a glimpse of a young man and falls
hopelessly in love with him.
Later, she finds out his true identity: he’s the prince Agis (Jay Rodan), son of the king whose throne was usurped by her father. To avoid execution, his family had the infant Agis smuggled out of prison and hidden with a great philosopher (Ben Kingsley) and his spinster sister.
In secrecy, the two raised him to denounce love and be the sworn enemy of the princess.
So how does the princess resolve this problem? By getting the real
prince to fall in love with her and restore his birthright by marrying him.
The challenge for the princess is to deceive him by disguising herself as a visiting gentleman scholar to win his friendship, and then later
seduce him.
The story only gets even more tangled
with the web of deception when his guardians get in the way. Now, she must not only seduce Agis, but the two of them as well!
This movie is well worth watching because of its clever plot, excellent acting, and it was also a Bernardo Bertolucci film. It was among the top ten of my favorite movies of the year.
Definitely rent it to see one of the best performances by Mira Sorvino, and especially to check out the new
hottie actor Jay Rodan.
