Porn Star – The Legend Of Ron Jeremy

Even though this is about porn legend Ron Jeremy the content is done less to titillate than to inform in its own quirky way. In this documentary, we learn about the lovable hedgehog’s (Ron’s nickname) personal life and his dogged determination to make it in the legitimate film industry.

Ron is an average man in almost all facets of his life – except the one where his self-admitted 9-¾ inch schlong comes in handy. Other than his humorous personality, you get Ron’s real-life conundrum: balancing his desires for a family and ambition to have a legitimate acting career while still being in the porn business. More directly, it’s his inability to make a clean cut away from the industry that is hard. Where else can a short, fat, hairy man be a star, have gorgeous women have sex with him, and be so revered by men across the globe? Only porn. This acceptance, which you’ll easily gleam from the DVD, is hard for Ron to give up.

But Ron’s story is not one of degradation and drug abuse like “Wadd: The Life And Times Of John C. Holmes” or the more recent “Sex: The Annabel Chong Story.” It’s a funny and enjoyable look at the life of porn’s most famous straight male star. You’ll see what it’s really like to be on a porn set (hardly erotic), follow Ron as he gets an AIDS test, and fall down laughing at his enormous book of phone numbers and how he keeps track of people. The DVD comes with cast and crew biography, deleted scenes and a funny commentary by Ron and director Scott J. Gill. Definitely worth a rental even if you’re not a fan of porn.
