Arrested Development Season One

I can honestly say that I've never bought a television DVD set that I watched twice all the way through consecutively. That is, until I happened upon a little television show called Arrested Development. Starring Jason Bateman as Michael Bluth, a man besieged by his own family, the show boasts a stellar cast as well as a talented writing team. The series follows the Bluth family as their patriarch, George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), is arrested and imprisoned for shady dealings within the family business. Michael then takes it upon himself to keep the sanity within his slightly insane family.

The cast is great, featuring such notables as David Cross and Portia De Rossi. Relative newcomers Michael Cera and Will Arnett, both steal the show. (Cera plays George-Michael, Michael Bluth's son and Arnett plays Gob, Michael's charismatically inane older brother.) As good as the cast is the people behind the scenes are even more talented. The writers consistently deliver with witty, hilarious dialogue and seem to only get funnier as the season continues. The narration done by the shows producer, Ron Howard (Yes, THE Ron Howard), is flawless and you may even catch some familiar faces directing episodes such as Paul Feig, the creator of the lost but not forgotten show Freaks and Geeks.

This is one of the few DVDs that you can spend hours watching and not grow tired of. Every episode progresses the story in such a funny and unexpected way that each viewing is just as hilarious as the last. From Gob and his magic to Buster and his awkward massages, there isn't one episode that lacks. As far as television sitcoms go, it doesn't get any better than Arrested Development.
