Flaming Lips - The Fearless Freaks
They claimed to have no talent musically, which is partially true, but they sure had a penchant for the bizarre and being original as any band I have ever heard or watch perform.
If you have been looking for an up-close personal view of this band--your search ends here--this DVD has it all. There is footage of the bands teenage years when they where playing football and smoking joints (which is not the best combination in the world); visits with family members and friends; even footage of one of the band members shooting up smack (now how sick is that? I thought that was a good illustration of an addict in the grips of a powerful disease. However, it was a bit much and unnecessary sensationalism.) Other than that, this was a very enjoyable DVD set to take in.
At times, I became bored with the duration of some of the interviews with Wayne Coyne, the leader of the group. He tends to ramble on a bit about things. He is a musical mastermind though, and I have to give him full credit for his enormous creativity. The longevity of the band as a unit speaks for itself and that is something very rare.
The Flaming Lips have cornered the market on the term unique. Just wait until you see this video, you have to see it with your own two eyes believe it. Go ahead, be fearless, be a freak and take a trip with one of the most outrageous rock bands on the planet.
